Squishy bags to work pre writting for Montessories

Squishy bags are perfect for sensory play without the mess. They are cheap and easy to make and your child will enjoy manipulating and playing with them.

The squishy bag is perfect for practicing letters, numbers, name writing, drawing pictures, shapes and words. Your child can practice hand and finger movements for pre-writing development on the squishy bag.

INGREDIENTS
For one sensory bag, you will need 1 cup of flour, 6 tablespoons of water and food colouring. You will also need zip-lock lunch bags (22cm x 22cm), sticky tape and a small mixing bowl.
Adjust the flour and water amounts if you are using a smaller or larger zip-lock bag.
STEPS
1. Add the amount of flour in a mixing bowl.
2. Put the food colouring on it (4 drops).
3. Mix it properly.
4. Scoop the flour mixture into the plastic zip-lock bag.
5. Before fastening the end, place the squishy bag onto a flat surface.
6.Gently push any excess air out to avoid air bubbles.
7. Place sticky tape along the opening to secure the opening.

ACTIVITIES

  • Let their imaginations run free to draw, create shapes, lines and patterns on the squishy bag.
  • Use a soft paint brush or a cotton wool bud  to write your name, letters, numbers and shapes.
  • Trace your finger over the shapes and numbers on the flip book before drawing them onto the squishy bag.
  • Place the squishy bag onto a light table/panel.
  • If the squishy bag keeps moving while drawing, sticky tape the sides of the bag to a flat surface.
  • Placing a white sheet of paper underneath the squishy bag will also help the drawings present clearer.
  • Use words such as: up, down, straight line and around to describe how to form the numbers and shapes.
